Gathinja
 Born
in Nairobi, Kenya, Gathinja has developed her talent in the arts in many
fashions. Being a semi-finalist in the Smirnoff International Fashion Awards in
1998 has encouraged her to bring her art to a new level of color and medium. She
believes that art can be found in any form and looks for it all around her.
Currently living in America, the paintings seen here are a
reflection of the Kenyan traditional villages and their practices.
Gathinja's mother attended design classes after work and
would make outfits for her and her cousins. Seeing this creativity in her
household influenced Gathinja, now 28, to become interested in fashion design
which led towards her interest in art.
Attending Evelyn's College of Fashion and Design on Ngong
Rd., she graduated in 1997 and continued her education at Rupani Dressmaking
School for an extra certificate in tailoring. However, she always had in
interest in drawing and embroidering. This eventually evolved into other forms
of creativity, including her love for painting.
