W.P. Kamunya

Born in Naivasha on 1976, Kamunya started his primary school education at Tumaini Primary School and Njambini High School where he graduated. He later joined Comboni Missionary College of Arts.

Kamunya has exhibited in Cortona Arts, Nakuru Players Theater, and provincial arts exhibitions at the Nakuru show ground government exhibitions stand.

Of himself, Kamunya says, “I am a talented artist. I have loved art with lots of passion since I was a young boy. I spent most of my time sketching on the floor with the chalk that a took from my father’s pocket – my father was a teacher. I grew up with a lot of interest in the arts, and I still feel the same way!”

“In the year 1998 I painted a 38” x 38” portrait of the second president of the republic of Kenya, Daniel Arap Moi. When Moi saw this painting he was very pleased. As a reward I was given a small plot of land and sole ownership of the workshop in Nakuru, Kenya, that I now paint from and am located.”

“I am inspired by the fine artist like Pablo Picasso, Leonardo DaVinci, Van Gogh, and Frida Kahlo.”

Kamunya is currently a fine arts teacher at the Hope for Life College in Nakuru. He says, “I love art with a passion – to me, everything that God created is art. I appreciate the way God created me to be an artist and I’ll never regret that!”

Kamunya paints with acrylics, natural dyes on cotton, polyester, and heavy canvas.
