Titus Kivuthi
It is from this hillside that both Titus Kivuthi and Kivuthi Mbuno have studios, and it is also on this hillside that the extended family live - as well as the goats, chickens, cows, and all forms of animals and items that make life interesting. Titus certainly has taken his queue from his successful father and shaped his paintings with many of the same stylizations that his father is so well-known for. Though his paintings are similar, they also have a lack of maturity as well as 'dark side'. Whereas Kivuthi rarely shows the deep red of blood flowing from one of his beloved animals, Titus has no problem with this depiction. I felt when we were together that Titus had much to learn from his father. As well, his own personal creative depth had not fully blossomed. I'll be interesed to see how his style changes as time goes on. Interestingly, it is Kivuthi Mbuno's earliest works that draw the most attention and are worth the most money these days. I wonder if these early works by Titus will be the same? 2 June 2005-Below are eight new paintings added to this website. Will they be incredibly valuable some day? Time will tell! The intense colors and unique 'carved' feel of the characters make Titus Kivuthi's paintings very interesting. He's a budding talent well on the way to becoming as notable as his father. Keep in mind, you can only find paintings by Titus Kivuthi here, on Inside African Art.
