Richard Wasike
 Richard
Wasike is considered a native Ugandan who is currently living in Nairobi, Kenya. His
paintings are small - but incredibly detailed and very evocative of the moods
that are realized viewing the astonishing landscapes of Kenya.
Wasike was
born in western Kenya on the Ugandan border in 1963, during the emergence of
Kenya’s independence from the British rule.
His natural talents were discovered at
the tender age of five by his father, a fine arts
teacher. As he grew older, his father encouraged him to paint African
landscape using watercolor. After completing his high school education at St.
Joseph in Kitale, he joined BIFA in Nairobi to graduate in Fine Arts.
He hopes that when Kenyans admire his
paintings of the savanna landscape, the appreciate their environment that
surrounds them and not take this beauty for granted.
If you have ever been to Kenya I'm sure you
have taken a moment to pause as you gaze into the distance of Africa's 'big
sky'. This is the emotion that Wasike seeks to, and successfully captures.
