Wycliffe Ndwiga
"The artist who is twenty five years of age hails from the Kikuyu tribe of Kenya. The Kikuyu tribe is the largest tribe in Kenya and the people are very industrious. Ndwiga from an early age had an intense interest in art. His brother, Daniel Njoroge, is the most known artist in Kenya at the moment. Daniel Njoroge learnt art from the famous artist David Shepherd. Ndwiga recalls that when he was very young he would often spend hours each day drawing figures of humans and animals in the dusty soil of his home. One could truly say that his style and appreciation of art, particularly the 'wildlife art', was cultured in the soil of Africa." Update - 14 October 2007: I have just added these three new paintings. The first is an incredible zebra landscape, showing zebras leaving their scent on a rock. The landscape reveals a stark look at possibly the Maasai Mara during dry season, the grass low and brown. This painting has exceptional detail. All three of these new paintings show how Ndwiga's style and attention to the small things are improving. With a very competitive family - Daniel Njoroge and David Muchuki are both brothers to Ndwiga - it seems his paintings will continue to improve. Update - May 2007: The person who generously contributed the photo above right, as recently returned from his own trip to Kenya and Tanzania, where a lifetime of dreams finally turned into reality. Mind you, the photo above reflected his passion for Africa - and he had never been there! Now, in his and his wife's return, they have reconfigured and enhanced their 'Africa Room'. They have kindly sent in these photos: 25 September 2006 - Mixed in with some of the older paintings, here comes more paintings by the incredibly talented Ndwiga! He has expanded his repertoire by integrating more human elements into his paintings which I think work well! Ndwiga's wildlife paintings are certainly the most well-priced original artworks you will find on the net!
"Ndwiga did his primary education in his hometown, but his school did not place a great emphasis on art. Therefore, as he was determined to pursue his love of art, he asked his elder brother to start coaching him on the subject. Because art was in his blood it did not take him long to become a professional artist at an early age. His desire is for the world to take notice of his talents as well as his compatriots who are African - incredibly gifted and well-seasoned African wildlife artists. Ndwiga paints from home and looks after his father as well." Our special artist, featured here on Inside African Art, has a relative who is also on the site, Daniel Njoroge. Check it out! These beautiful paintings below have all been sold and are being enjoyed in their new homes.
