Benard
Githogori I met Bena on my last trip to Kenya - what a wonderful guy. He is working at a place having nothing to do with his true passion - the arts, but he had no choice to get by. He struck me as a very positive and genuine man who was enchanted by the idea of someone taking an interest in something that he had 'put on the back burner'. The thought of revitalizing his creativity and art skills energized him - and he produced the paintings below. But first, some biographical information - in his own words: I was born in 27th Dec 1975,in Nairobi, Kenya. I attended my elementary education in Nairobi from 1982-1989, I went to Naromoru Boys secondary school in in Nyeri district 1990-1993. In the school, I helped start an Art and Design Club, whereby I helped other students to nurture their artistic skills and talents. I discovered my artistic talent, when I was around 6 years. I enjoyed drawing cartoon caricatures and of course the safari rally motor competition. This made me realize at the tender age that someday I will become an artist. After clearing my secondary education, I enrolled in Buru Buru Institute of Fine Arts (BIFA) in Nairobi, in the years 1994-1996, where I pursued a Diploma course in Illustration, Graphic Design and Painting. During this time at the college, I managed to fine-tune my drawing and painting skills which enabled me to become one of the best students in the college in realism and drawing at the time. I was then employed in different
companies as a graphic designer, I pursued higher education in other fields as
a marketer and currently work as a business developer in an outdoor
advertising company in Nairobi. As much as I work in a totally different
field from art, I still do paint in my free time, because art is still my
passion. My style is realism, and abstract in I have participated in various local art exhibitions, but notably is when I was awarded a certificate of merit by Purple Images Production, under the Kenya National ILO/IPEC (International Labor Organization) Art and Photo Contest in Nairobi, on child labor in March, 2003. My inspiration comes from the typical traditional African lifestyles, from different communities in Kenya, and their diverse cultures. I like painting portraits both on oil on canvas, paper, and water acrylic paints as well as pencil work, I also do wildlife. My artistic influences comes from
the iconic David Shepherd's work whose style is ultra-realism, and Wakaba
Mutheki, a former college mate in BIFA, now based in South Africa, lives and
works there. He is a very good friend who advises and inspires me too. I hope
you enjoy my paintings. Benard's paintings: If you appreciate Benard Githogori's paintings, Click Here to Purchase, or you can always Make an Offer!
