Dear Friends, Neighbors and Family,
Kenya, my homeland, is experiencing a devastating drought that has lasted
longer than one year. Due to the severe lack of rainfall, our rivers, lakes
and crops have dried up and most of the livestock have died. As a result,
peasant farmers, who make up more than half of the Kenyan population, are
unable to feed and support their families, many of whom are dying of
starvation.
I
regularly send money home to my family who in turn use it to buy food for
hungry families in our village, many of whom arrive at my parent’s (Jane
and Sospeter Kabua) farm looking for food to feed their starving
families. I am realizing that my contributions, as well as those of my
parents, are not sufficient to feed enough of the people in this hard-hit
area. My niece, Miss Edith Wamuyu, a nursery school teacher at
Karicheni Primary School, has related heart- breaking stories of 2/3 of her
students (3 – 5 year olds) coming to school hungry without packed lunches.
My neice feels desperate to help and encourages those students with lunch
to share with the others. She earns a very small salary ($20 per month),
but uses her own money to feed as many of these children as she can.
For one dollar, you can feed a family of four, in Kenya, for one day.
100% of
the money I can send is used directly for farming families in the Kieni
Constituency that have been affected by this drought. My mother gives until
her own cupboards are bare because she cannot turn away hungry neighbors and
friends. Any assistance you can contribute will be a tremendous blessing
for many hungry families and children. My niece will use the money to buy
food for her students and their families at the school. My mother can make
food available for the many hungry neighbors that come to her for help. With my last check for $200, my mother was able to deliver food to 45 local
families.
Please include your email address with your donation so that I can properly
thank you and keep you informed of the amazing difference that your money is
making.
Thank
you in advance for any help you can give.
Yours
Faithfully,
