A Letter to Friends - Jill's second email - After the first food distribution:

Hi Everyone,

I have some very good news to report about our efforts to raise money for the peasant farming families in my sister-in-law's (Liz) village in Kenya.  With the first round of donations, we were able to reach out to 200 villagers AND 200 children at the primary school.  The school was able to store food enough for student lunches for about two months!  All of this happened with about $800.  We have recently sent another donation of $625 and look forward to sending more soon.

Thank you to all who have contributed, you are making a big difference to save lives.  The rains still have not come and these people are very grateful for any help we can give.

PLEASE take a moment to check out the website as it has been updated with pictures and information on exactly how our money was used.

We are continuing our efforts to help any way we can.  Remember just a small amount of money will go a long way to feed hungry people in Kenya.  Liz has made it easy for us by adding Paypal to the website.

Something that Liz's mom said really humbled me.  She said that as she was handing out food to the women that are watching their families starve, they actually said prayers for us!  The fact that we had remembered them and thought to help made them eternally grateful.

**For those of you that are new to this email, Please visit the website for more information.  My sister-in-law lives here in Maitland now, but her family are all in Kenya.  She wants everyone to know that we are not raising money for her family as they are able to feed themselves.  Rather, we are raising money to help their neighbors and friends that have lost everything to due a drought that has lasted more than a year.

Thank you all for everything you are doing to help!
With Love,
Jill

The letter that started it all:

Hi Everyone,

As many of you know, my sister-in-law is from Kenya.  Due to devastating drought conditions, many hard working, farming families have lost everything and are not able to feed their families.  Liz's parents are doing all they can to help feed their neighbors and the children at the local school.  However, the need is overwhelming.  Please read the attached letter (shown above).  Please know that ANY help you can give will truly make a difference and will go directly to the people in dire need.  Even your pocket change can feed a family!

If you are involved with youth groups of any kind, you may want to make this a service project for them.  Although this is not a formal, non-profit organization, it is a good opportunity for kids to learn what we can do to make a difference at a grassroots level and what a small world it truly is!

Please remember these people in your prayers.

Love,

Jill Schaffer
